Today
was our last day in London before we were off to Paris! We boarded the Eurostar
and arrived in Paris in less than two hours. The Eurostar was a nice, smooth
ride, and I'm pretty sure we all fell asleep. After meeting Dr. Merrick at the
McDonalds, we took the Metro system. The Metro system is very busy and
complicated. Our stop was Chatelet and it was very confusing if you fail to pay
attention.
Later
that night, we made our way to see the Eiffel Tower. It was still daylight, but
the scenery was still beautiful. We all took a group picture sipping wine out
of little glasses. Due to construction, we had the option to climb the Eiffel
Tower for 2 tiers of stairs, and then take a lift to the top. It took us
approximately 20 minutes to climb 500 plus steps. By the end, we were
exhausted. Finally being at the top felt great. The view and scenery was
spectacular! We all felt accomplished to take on such a challenge. The Eiffel Tower was given to France as a gift. At first, many people despised it and called it ugly. Today, the Eiffel Tower is one of Paris' historic and beloved landmark.
What I Learned:
The
Eiffel Tower lights up at 10:00 PM and it lasts for about five minutes.
Metro System |
We took the Metro from Gare du Nord to our hotel. Dr. Merrick wanted us to get a feel of how the Metro system works. Our stop, which was Chatelet, is very confusing. It was important to make sure we understood our way around the Metro station, or we would be lost. We learned the hard way that the Metro is most popular train transport because we waited approximately 20 minutes for a RER train to show. The Metro trains are arrive much quicker and the wait for the next train is faster.
What I Learned: I learned that there are 16 lines and 301 stations within the Metro system.
